Lee: If someone’s had a fire in their home, duct cleaning is definitely in order. Also, I heard about this case yesterday, and if you have something like that in your ducts, you probably want to get them cleaned out afterward. But a lot of the duct cleaning companies don’t offer duct cleaning as part of a whole package that really improves someone’s home.

My company (Servpro) performs duct cleanings, but in my area, they are almost exclusively part of post-fire-damage cleanup. The franchise I work for does not have duct-cleaning equipment, so when it comes up we call one of the nearby franchises that have the equipment. We don’t advertise duct cleaning, except that it is among the list of services printed on the side of the trucks. To my knowledge, we have fielded exactly one call in the last 8 months from someone wanting ducts cleaned without having had a fire in or near their home. That one, we simply referred to the other franchise, and I don’t know what their sales procedure includes.
