Chris C.: Glad to be of service!

Paul M.: You mean you want us to go off the reservation?! ;~) Both Affordable Comfort and RESNET have 90 minute sessions and ask the speakers to leave a half hour for Q&A; at the end. They also both schedule panel discussions and forums to accommodate the need for the type of free-form discussion you’re talking about. And then there are all the conversations that happen just by getting all those home energy geeks together in one place. But I know what you mean. The older I get, the less I like sitting & listening to speakers, unless they’re really good.

Sydney: Howdy, comrade! Thanks for the additional tips. Those are certainly good ones, and we found the same problems with instructions and spam in our group.

Allison, great tips! As a comrade committee member, I’d like to add a few.

6. Follow Instructions. This may seem obvious, but you’d be suprised how many folks failed to complete all parts of the abstract submission form.

7. Form Partnerships. As in life, many of the strongest submissions draw upon the diverse experiences of professionals from different fields or institutions. Synergy.

8. Don’t Spam the Conference. We know you are really smart. Submitting 10 abstracts does not increase your credibility, especially when we can barely tell them apart.

9. Make it Sound Fun!

Allison … lots of good points .. HOWEVER .. proven “performers” like Dennis Stroer, Architect Peter Pfeiffer, (You), and the like, are most enjoyable and informative when they allow the discussion to dictate the seminar’s path.

Interesting post.

This was helpful. Especially as I embark more off into training and consulting.
