Any idea for how long the MERV filter can be used in a face mask – one time use only, one week ?
Thank you

A couple of things to note: MERV 16 is available from Filti, apparently the manufacturer, with instructions on how to use it in a mask. It is breathable. Also, polypropylene Pellon (the kind not needle-punched) is shown to have an antibacterial effect and is washable, since it’s a sewing product. Both MERV 16 and Pellon are still easy to find. But there may be a simpler answer, too: The developer of the fabric for the N95 has been working on a consumer equivalent, and he said that the closest he has found so far already exists: blue shop towels. He says that they are highly efficient filters. They’re easy to use as inner liners that you can just toss if you sweat.

I have sewn a number of cloth Masks with pockets. I bought some Merv 13 cloth from amazon or eBay and cut it to fit. It took quite a while to get it smoothly inserted in the pocket. I really do t want to be taking it in and out of the mask, especially if it is full of Covid 19 viruses. I’m thinking of making a few more masks with the Merv13 seen inbetween layers so that when I hand wash the mask it will get washed with dish soap as well with out possibly scattering viruses all over my house. Any reason to think this is a bad idea?
Thanks for any feed back.

I know I’m late to this conversation, and I have no affiliation with this website, but I found some great COVID 19 face mask Before this purchase, I have been having a hard time finding masks that are comfortable and actually stay on. The earloops are truly amazing. I hope you can protect yourself.

People on Etsy are selling Merv-13 mask sized filters that are advertised to be reusable (washable) and free of fiber glass particles. But now there’s talk of chemical binders. I’m not sure I can trust someone else’s assurances of non-toxicity. I’m looking into the fabric that medical instruments are sterilized in. It is supposed to keep out very small micron viruses. Expensive, but also durable.
