Curt,

I haven’t played around with changing around mass in different assemblies yet, but yes…WUFI Passive should be able to estimate the impact.

Last thing first: Do we need you to bring back “Peak Oil” or would we be better off reframing that issue in the form of “Peak CO2”?

I wonder if true dynamic modeling would better capture the benefits conferred by mass, but NOT the time honored use of thermal mass to comfortably salt away solar gain in a heating dominated climate.

I contend that in a hot humid climate the partially insulated mass contained within ICF walls (4-6″ poured concrete + rebar with ~R10 foam both sides) provides just enough heat conduction into a home all night to cause HVAC to cycle at intervals all night sufficient for better dehumidification during late night hours when there is almost no new sensible gain being added to the exterior.

My own (admittedly anecdotal) experience suggests this occurs; would dynamic modeling suss it out and quantify it?
